Vowel Words

Vowel words sound like they would be the default expectation in English. After all, with rare exceptions, you cannot form a normal word in English without using a vowel. But, what happens when you look at your Scrabble® tile rack and see you’ve got only vowels? Can you play words with only vowels and Y? YEA. You can. Yes, even in Wordle. Read more about vowel words

More About Words With Only Vowels

Coming up with vowel words may seem simple at first, since vowels are everywhere. But, coming up with an extensive vowel-only word list is an entirely different challenge. Did you know an AUA is another name for a type of New Zealand fish? Many Scrabble® words with vowels only are uncommon like that.

Not counting the few English words without vowels that use the Welsh W, you can also consider words with Y, the letter that is sometimes a vowel. AYE, that’s a good place to start if you want to EYE a few all vowel words for Scrabble® play. Five letter words with only vowels, like AIYEE and AYAYA, are perfect for solving Wordle. Many of the best starting words in Wordle focus on revealing the vowels.

Going further, you might spritz a bit of EAU de parfum. Or marvel at the AA oozing from the volcano. OI, that’s one way to get your opponent’s attention.

From short vowel words to long vowel words, you’ve got options to consider. This is also an important reminder to maintain rack balance as best you can. When you’ve got the right variety of letter tiles, you’ll have better opportunities for high scoring words. If you find yourself lacking vowels, our list of words without vowels and a lot of consonants could be just the ticket.
